Introduction
Reading is a key skill, but schools often use outdated methods to teach it. We often learn to read by sounding out words, following steps, or relying on memorization. These methods often miss key parts like focus, curiosity, and emotional engagement. These are all vital for real reading comprehension.
Skills like focus, impulse control, and working memory are key for learning. However, these skills are frequently overlooked in standard reading lessons. It is vital to develop these skills for children’s learning and success.
For me, reading felt like a race I could never win. Despite my genuine interest in learning, I struggled to retain what I read. My pace was slow, and I often had to re-read paragraphs multiple times just to understand them. I realized I needed a better reading technique that matched how the brain processes and stores information.
My Experience with Popular Speed Reading Programs
Like many others, I turned to the most popular solution of the time: the Evelyn Wood speed-reading course. I spent hours practicing finger-tracking exercises across pages, mimicking “S,” “Z,” and “C” shaped patterns. Alongside students and professionals, I worked to increase my reading speed and comprehension.
To be fair, I did triple my speed temporarily. However, the improvement didn’t last. As soon as I returned to my daily routine, the habit unraveled. I also explored other well-known systems like Howard Berg’s Mega Speed-Reading and Power Reading. Each one had minor differences, but all relied on basic techniques and rigid mechanical exercises. None provided a reading technique rooted in genuine cognitive engagement or emotional resilience.
What the Missing Piece Was: Focus, Absorption & Curiosity
It took years for me to uncover the missing ingredients in my approach: deep focus, effortless absorption, and an unwavering curiosity. Each technique failed to silence the internal noise that clouded my concentration. No one led me to a mental haven where reading became more than just a task—it turned into true joy.
These programs missed addressing the emotional impact of past failures. They didn’t tackle the anxiety and self-doubt that often arise when reading under pressure. To develop an effective reading technique, the approach needed to go beyond mechanics. It had to start by reshaping the way I engaged with information mentally and emotionally.
Developing a Revolutionary Reading Technique: The Birth of Reading Genius®
After more than a decade of trial, error, and reflection, I took a different route. I stopped looking for the perfect external system and created my own. I spent years studying psychology, traveling the world, and teaching thousands of people in person. I created a method that reveals a person’s inner genius. This is the great mental potential that many reading techniques overlook.
I called it Reading Genius®. Unlike traditional programs, this method is designed to activate focus first. It shows learners how to quiet mental distractions and approach reading with intentionality. From there, the technique encourages a state of mental absorption that enhances retention without forcing it. Curiosity becomes a driving force, not a side effect.
What Makes the Reading Genius® Technique So Effective
At the heart of Reading Genius® is the principle of aligning with the brain’s natural learning state. This includes:
- Entering a calm and focused mental space before engaging with any text
- Replacing mechanical scanning with full-sensory immersion
- Cultivating emotional safety to neutralize past negative learning experiences
This reading technique doesn’t rely on speed alone. Instead, it helps learners process information faster by removing mental friction. The result isn’t just quicker reading. It also leads to clearer understanding and improved long-term memory.
